Universities with 'Beijing' in the name: telling Peking University and the others apart

In the second-round Double First-Class annex, "University of Beijing" is not a printed name. The annex prints Chinese names only, and the Beijing entries whose Chinese names contain 北京 are the ones in the table below, from 北京大学 (Peking University) to 中国地质大学（北京）. Their names differ mainly in where 北京 appears: at the start of the name, or in brackets after the main part of the name.
The other Beijing entries have Chinese names without 北京, and they are not in the table. For those, see the Beijing listings in this directory's section page.
Beijing entries whose Chinese names contain 北京
The table gives each Chinese name as it is printed in the annex, the English name this directory uses, the administering body from the national list of higher education institutions dated 17 June 2026, and the disciplines printed in the annex. The institutions come from the second-round Double First-Class list issued on 9 February 2022 (教研函〔2022〕1号). The national list gives the place and administering body; the annex does not.
English names of institutions and disciplines are this directory's renderings, not official translations. The official lists are in Chinese. The English sentences on this page are this site's translation of the Chinese texts.

The disciplines column lists the disciplines printed in the annex. A discipline count made from the entries of the annex is not a quality measure, and this page does not use one.
How the names differ
Most names in the table start with 北京, such as 北京交通大学 and 北京理工大学. In the other three, 北京 is in brackets after the first part of the name: 中国矿业大学（北京）, 中国石油大学（北京） and 中国地质大学（北京）. The English names used by this directory follow the same pattern, with "Beijing" in brackets for those three.
Because the Chinese names differ in form, a search for the full Chinese name will match only the institution named. Check each name against the annex.
Peking University (北京大学)
北京大学 is the Chinese name that this directory renders as Peking University. In the annex, its entry prints no disciplines. It prints the words 自主确定建设学科并自行公布 instead, which means the university determines and publishes its own construction disciplines.
Paragraph 2 of the notice dated 9 February 2022 says that Peking University and Tsinghua University determined their construction disciplines themselves and published them separately. Tsinghua University's name does not contain 北京, so it is not in the table.
Other Beijing entries
The annex has other entries under the Beijing header of the national list, and their Chinese names do not contain 北京. One example is 中国人民大学 (Renmin University of China), which is printed in the annex without 北京. The Beijing listings in this directory's section page cover those entries.
What the list does not show
Being on the second-round Double First-Class list does not show that a university enrols international students in a given programme. This page gives no fees, deadlines, scholarship amounts, language requirements or admission data for any university. Each university's own admission prospectus sets those.

Is there a university called "University of Beijing" in the annex?
The annex prints Chinese names only, and it prints no English names. The Beijing entries whose Chinese names contain 北京 are listed in the table above, with their English names used by this directory.
Does the annex print disciplines for Peking University?
No disciplines are printed for 北京大学 in the annex. Its entry reads 自主确定建设学科并自行公布, and paragraph 2 of the notice dated 9 February 2022 says the same about Peking University and Tsinghua University.
Which list date should I check?
The Double First-Class annex is the second-round list issued on 9 February 2022 (教研函〔2022〕1号). The administering bodies and places come from the national list of higher education institutions as of 17 June 2026. Confirm each name against the current official list before you rely on it.
