Double First-Class universities in Shanghai and what each is listed for
Sources checked · Unofficial summary
Counting the entries of the annex to the second-round Double First-Class list, 14 institutions printed under the header 上海市 (Shanghai) in the national list are on that list. The table below gives, for each of the 14, the name as printed, the English name this directory uses, the administering body and the disciplines printed for it.
This directory's section page lists universities by province. The second-round list was issued by notice dated 9 February 2022 (教研函〔2022〕1号). The national list of higher education institutions is the Ministry of Education's list as of 17 June 2026. This page is a reference only. It does not rank the institutions, and it gives no admission information.
English names of institutions and disciplines are this directory's renderings. The official lists are in Chinese. This English text is this site's translation of the Chinese text.
How the Shanghai count is made
The national list, as of 17 June 2026, prints the header line 上海市（69所）, which gives 69 institutions for Shanghai. Counting the rows of the list under that header, 40 are at undergraduate level (本科), 29 are at junior-college level (专科), and 19 have 民办 (privately run) in the remark column. These are counts made from the rows of the list, not figures printed by the Ministry.
Counting the entries of the annex, 14 are printed with 上海市 as their place (所在地) in the national list. The place in this table comes from that list. The annex itself prints no place.
The 14 entries
The rows follow the order of the annex, which is the order of school codes. The Chinese names are as printed in the Double First-Class list (notice of 9 February 2022). Administering bodies come from the national list as of 17 June 2026, with the Chinese given in brackets.

The annex prints 上海体育学院 for Shanghai University of Sport. The national list as of 17 June 2026 prints 上海体育大学 for the same institution, and this directory's page uses the later name.
The disciplines in the table are the disciplines printed for each entry in the annex. This page reports them and does not count them.
Reading the entries
The annex is printed in the order of school codes. This page keeps that order. It does not rank the institutions or comment on their quality.
The annex prints a name and a list of disciplines for each entry. It has no province column, no ranking, no score and no English names.
Being on the annex does not show whether a university enrols international students in a given programme. The university's own admission prospectus is the place to check that.
Checking the lists
Confirm each name and discipline against the current official list before you rely on it. The official lists are in Chinese. The Double First-Class section of this site is at /double-first-class/, and the guide Double First-Class list explained describes how the list is built.
Questions people ask
Are the 14 entries ranked?
No. The annex is printed in the order of school codes, and this page keeps that order. The annex prints no ranking and no score, and this page does not rank the institutions.
Does being on the list show that a university enrols international students?
No. The annex prints a name and a list of disciplines for each entry, and it prints nothing about teaching language or international students. Each university's own admission prospectus is where to check admission information.
Where does the place of each university come from?
The place (所在地) comes from the place column of the national list of higher education institutions as of 17 June 2026. The annex prints no place, so this page does not take the place from the annex.
Are the English names official?
No. The English names of institutions and disciplines are this directory's renderings. The official lists are in Chinese, and the Chinese name as printed is the name to check against the list.
